Is Gaming an Art? - The Debate

There have been multiple debates about gaming, especially lately. Are casuals taking over the market? Are hardcore gamers not important? But one of the latest, and most interesting is: is gaming an art? I shall attempt to answer this question.
A lot of people say no. It is obvious why. Some games just, such as Grand Theft Auto for example, only have blood, sex and other not so artistic things in them. In contrast, a lot of people say yes, and I also understand why. Games like Paper Mario, Professor Layton and Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, have brilliant graphics, and they are just so artistic. Then there are games with brilliant sound tracks, with Wind Waker and Super Mario Galaxy being a few.
But we need a generalized opinion. So here it is. The majority of are artistic, with some that are not. In the end, gaming should be considered an art in my opinion, but only if it has to be generalized.
So, once again dear reader, I would like to see your opinion on such a matter. Is gaming an art to you? Or is it just a leisure activity?

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)I agree with you it all depends on the game. I think games which take practice and thought could in some way be described as art. But not all some are games dedicated to being simple.Great article. Well done.
Hi Mr. Home. I love the third route. And in answer to your question, I would have to say, It depends :-) Very well written. Blessings to you! Teresa
I say that the game graphics are art, but not the games themselves. Make sense? That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the comment. Also, the music on some games can be art as well. As a lot of songs are just masterpieces.
