Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Review (SPOILERS!)

I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books. I've read better, but I've read far less. So naturally, I like the Harry Potter movies. lately though, they've been straying more and more away from the original book they were based on. So what about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince? Is it a piece of rubbish or is it a faithful movie with incredible directing, incredible effects and an incredible story? Let's find out.

Rather than go through every single scene, I'll mention why I enjoyed the movie and then my favourite scenes. This way the review is not longer than every Harry Potter glued together. The first reason I enjoy this masterpiece is that it's relevant to the book, or at least to my hazy memory. What little I can remember of the book was in the movie, and thus it was faithful. The second reason is because it is directed so well. All the shots are almost, if not, perfect. The scenes flow well, and most jumps make sense.

Next is the effects. Sure it wasn't as flashy as it's prequel, the Order of the Phoenix, but what effects it did have were perfect. For example, Dumbledore's fire spell in the 'horcrux' scene was awe-spiring. VERY awe-spiring. I also liked the contrast between this movie and Order because this movie is more story based and less action based, which is the opposite of Order.

Finally, the acting. The acting was quite good, and when Harry drank the Liquid Luck, Daniel Radcliffe seemed drunk. Absolute brilliant acting right there, Daniel. And for once I liked the new Dumbledore, who I disliked for being too angry for an Albs Dumbledore.

So onto my favourite scenes. I enjoyed the whole movie, but my favourite scenes were everything from the 'horcrux' scene to when Dumbledore's phoenix flew off at the end. What I liked about the 'horcrux' scene was Dumbledore's innocence when drinking. It was saddening to see such a great man act in such a childish nature. Next, the confrontation between Malfoy and Dumbledore. I felt so sad for Malfoy, having to kill someone he respected (or so it appeared), and was glad when he didn't. But despite reading the book, I still found Dumbledore's death a bit saddening. Finally, there was Dumbledore's funeral. It was a scene were words were not important, and most people, including myself, could empathise for everyone who ever loved Dumbledore. And those were my three favourite scenes in the entire movie.

So, here comes my rating. I rate this movie 9.5/10, and recommend it to all who have seen the past 5 movies, and have read the books. To all of you who have never seen the movie, I say you should ASAP.

Good review, Cameron. I think this movie was one of the best they have made. The only one I really didn't care for was the Tri-Wizard competition, Goblet of Fire, was it? I love the books as well.
