Does War Equal Peace? Is the War We’re in Correct?

As everyone knows, there is a war going on in Afghanistan against terrorists going on currently. Many people say: "LET THE TROOPS OUT! THEY'RE DYING FOR NOTHING!"

I beg to differ.

Before you shout "YOU'RE WRONG!" at me, first listen to what I have to say. I think that if we move the troops out and bring them back to America, Britain, and other countries involved, then the terrorists will think they're free to do whatever they want and go back to terrorising. So I think it would be counter-productive to let the troops go home.

Right now, you'll be thinking "But Cameron, what about all the deaths of the soldiers?" Good question. Think of it this way: let the troops stay; loads of troops die. Let the troops go home; a larger number of innocents die. We're in a lose-lose situation here. But remember why the soldiers are fighting. They're fighting for our safety. And if they quit fighting, then we aren't safe. We can't win without losing.

We need to respect why their fighting. We need to accept that they are dying for us. They're the great heroes that are preventing us from dying. If we pull them out now, what would happen? More lives than ever would be on the line is the most likely answer.

Not only that, but this war is trying to bring peace, as is almost, if not every, war. The soldiers want us to be safe, and to be peaceful. The terrorists are preventing peace from happening, and thus, we need to stop it. And someone won't stop what they're doing without a fight. So we fight them back, and it leads to war.

Let's take another example of a war for peace. In World War II, Hitler and his Nazis started off by attacking Poland. Britain realised that soon Europe would be in Hitler's control if they didn't stop it. They realised that the attack on Poland would prevent peace from coming about. And so did most of Europe. Eventually, it scaled into a full world war.

At the end of the war, everything was quite peaceful, which proves what I'm saying. I accept that it wasn't 100% peaceful, but it wasn't as tense as it used to be.

But now we're under attack, and have no peace or tranquility. So our soldiers are fighting for it, and OUR safety. We need to support this cause, because it's the only way we can make sure innocents are safe.

So now I would like you to answer my questions. Is war the only way to get peace in your opinion? If not, what other ways? And what is your view on the Afghanistan war?

Great article. Well done.

Very interesting article and it is great to explore all the different perspectives. I can clearly see your point and I assure you that if the Talaban are left to their own devises it would cause problems.

Yet, I would say that if the troops are going to stay that we pay out big time to make sure they have the best of everything and to ensure they don't get killed. If they need air support send a helicopter. No helicopeters to send. Buy another one.

Your last point is a very good point Connor, and I completely agree.
